A YouTube video was posted on Monday (August 27th), showing Richard Pryor’s ex-bodyguard, Rashon Kahn, alleging that the late legend comedian offered up $1 million for someone to kill fellow comedian Paul Mooney for sleeping with Pryor’s son, Richard Jr.
Kahn, is the author of an upcoming book called Everything Wasn’t Funny, where he shares the reason that Pryor and Mooney’s professional relationship and friendship ended abruptly. For those not familiar with the backstory Mooney, who still remains working til this day, co-wrote material for Pryor back in the day including having the title of head writer for The Richard Pryor Show.
When asked about their relationship around the time of Pryor’s death in 2005, Kahn alleged that at that point it’d been bad for nearly two decades.
“From Jo Jo Dancer on their relationship became fragile because Paul Mooney had f*cked Richard’s son by that time.”
At one point he stated that Mooney “violated” Richard which appeared to have led to several media outlets to inaccurately report that whatever went on between the two was actually rape, though what Kahn appears to mean is Pryor’s trust because, again, Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling came out in ’86, and Richard Jr. was born in 1962.
“So from there on, whatever Paul Mooney was to Richard, and there was a time when Paul Mooney was Richard’s friend (…) so when Paul did what he did it was a violation of friendship, first, and then my son,” Kahn continued. “And in some circles that’s supposed to be dealt with.”
And on the subject if retaliation was ever brought to the open, Kahn stated that it was “to the extent that Richard didn’t want [Mooney] on the planet anymore.”
Kahn alleges that Pryor shared this demand with him and at the time he believed that Richard was high off of drugs so he just didn’t take it seriously. He thought that within a few days things will eventually cool down and get back to normal. Later on Kahn went back to Richard to see if he remembered what he had told him, and Pryor confirmed he was serious. Kahn goes on to allege that Pryor offered $1 million to whomever would perform the act, detailing why he wanted the hit done.
According to Kahn Pryor felt hurt and betrayed because 1. It was his son, and 2.) That was his friend.
And why wasn’t the task carried out one might want to know?
Kahn says that the reason was because Richard “caught on fire” which completely changed his focus. He says, if not for that, Mooney would not be alive today.
Kahn said that he later talked to Richard Jr. about his father’s intentions, which caused the son to get emotional because he was no idea that his dad knew what had happened.
Cassandra Williams, Paul Mooney’s publicist, has denied all accusations made by Rashon Kahn telling TMZ:
“There is no validity to Rashon Kahn’s statement as it relates to Mr. Paul Mooney.”
What’s your 2 cents?!
