Drake wasn’t on the remix because Jay-Z just wanted it to be him and Fat Joe alone.
The “All The Way Up” remix was a huge turning point in hip hop history and finally resolved beef between Fat Joe and Jay-Z. The G.O.A.T.’s put all their differences aside to collab on the hit track, reppin New York City. In a sit down interview with Peter Rosenberg, Joe revealed that everybody and their mama was trying to get on the remix, including one of Canada’s finest, but it was only the original artists that made the cut and Jay-Z because Hov wanted the moment to be a special one for the culture.
Fat Joe via Open Late:
“I got a FaceTime call maybe three times while ‘All the Way Up’ was out,” said Fat Joe. And it was your man, the 6 God, Drake.”
Joe says that Drake asked him to send over the instrumental so that he could record a verse for the remix. At the end of it all Drake’s verse for the song was never released because Hov preferred that he didn’t want any extra artists on the song.
“[Jay-Z] said ‘Look, Joe. It means so much to the history between us, let’s not put no one else on the song. He’s not referring to Drake. … Everyone wanted to get on the remix.”
