Kyrie is what a team player is all about!
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that’s leaving people sick and dying, sports are coming back. But not every athlete who is scheduled to report back to work is not coming back. A number NBA and WNBA players have chosen to sit out the season because they did not want to risk getting sick or making others ill. and of course there are other players such as Atlanta Dream’s Renee Montgomery, who have chosen to sit out to take advantage of America’s renewed interest in creating equality using their platform
These players will not be getting paid this season which might work for an NBA player who are worth millions of dollars, but for WNBA players who have been fighting many years to get fair pay equality missing a season could ruin them financially.
And here comes Kyrie Irving who proves time and time again that he is a stand up guy!
He wanted to help and do something for the sacrifice that some women are making. Kyrie has committed to a $1.5 million fund to supplement the women’s missing income according to Bleacher Report.
“Whether a person decided to fight for social justice, play basketball, focus on physical or mental health, or simply connect with their families, this initiative can hopefully support their priorities and decisions.”
The donation will added to the KAI Empowerment Initiative, a program that was created by Irving which also help WNBA players with a “comprehensive financial literacy program.”
In these times this is some positive news for the well deserved ladies! Let’s see how many players drop bags towards the cause!
